WHAT IS TOP-ROPE CLIMBING?

Top-rope climbing is one of the most popular forms of indoor climbing. Climbers wear a harness attached to a rope that runs through an anchor point at the top of the wall.

Because the rope is anchored above the climber, falls are shorter and more controlled, allowing participants to focus on learning movement, technique, and confidence on the wall.

HOW TOP-ROPE Climbing WORKS

Getting started is simple. Our staff will walk you through everything you need to know to climb safely and confidently on your very first visit.

Gear Up

Put on a harness and receive any necessary safety instruction from our trained staff members.

Get Connected

The rope is attached to your harness and routed through an anchor system at the top of the wall.

Start Climbing

Choose a route appropriate for your skill level and begin climbing at your own pace.

Is rock climbing safe for beginners?

Rock climbing is an inherently risky activity, but beginners can get started in a controlled environment with proper instruction, equipment, and guidance. At Shaker Rocks, we provide orientations and staff support to help new climbers get on the wall.

Do I need experience to start?

No experience is needed! Our staff will help guide you through the process. All levels of experience are welcome at Shaker Rocks!

Do I need my own equipment?

We suggest bringing comfortable clothes to move around in and water. Everything else, we have available at the gym.

Is rock climbing a good workout?

Rock climbing is a great workout for both your body and mind. It builds strength, balance, and endurance while also challenging you to problem-solve, stay focused, and think strategically. Every climb is both a physical and mental challenge, making it a fun and rewarding way to stay active.

Can kids participate?

How much does it cost to climb?

At Shaker Rocks, a standard day pass is $23, and a youth day pass (ages 22 and under) is $21. Children 5 and under climb free with a paying adult. If you need rental gear: Shoes: $6, Harness: $5, Belay device: $4
